| Bridal Shower Favors | | Posted Thursday, January 26, 2006 3:30:07 PM by Alex Molin | Although this is a well known custom, you might have asked yourself at least once, why should the bride and groom, give presents to their guests? After all, it is their wedding being celebrated, not the guest’s.
Look at it this way: shower/wedding favors, are given to the guests as a reminder of the couple’s special day, but not only that, it is a marvelous way of saying “thanks” to the guests for being a part of the celebration.
The custom of giving favors is not a modern invention. It is even mentioned in some Greek mythology stories. The only difference is the kinds of favors given. You will not find any couple giving a “sugar-coated almonds” to their guests , as was given in ancient time as a symbol of health and happiness. Today couples and brides are more creative in their expressions of gratitude to their guests.
How to find the perfect favor for your guests?
- Look for a favor which will reflect your personal style.
- Look for an elegant favor.
- Try to choose a favor which will be distinctive and therefore will be remembered f...

| | | CAROL CAIN: Jingle spin-off aims to hit a high note | | Posted Tuesday, November 07, 2006 7:16:20 PM by Blog57 Team | | For music industry veteran Dan Yessian, staying ahead of the pack means taking notes from a couple of rookies -- his sons. The 62-year-old founder of Yessian, one of the leading commercial jingle makers in the country, has made his mark creating musical scores and advertising jingles for major brands and companies such as Chevrolet, Disney, L'Oreal and NBC. The company, which started in 1971 and has offices in metro Detroit, has grown to 23 full-time employees. But in recent years, Yessian and his sons -- Brian, 30, and Michael, 27 -- have noticed that more big-name artists like Moby and Madonna are marketing their songs for use on TV shows, movies, ads and the Internet. That gave Brian, Yessian's executive creative director, and Michael, executive producer, the idea for a new business geared toward connecting artists with companies.... | |

| | | AMY ALKON: THE ADVICE GODDESS: His contact with old flame burns wife | | Posted Saturday, November 04, 2006 7:48:46 AM by Blog57 Team | | Q: Before my husband married me, he was engaged to "Vera." Vera was financially and emotionally dependent on him after leaving friends, family and her business to be with him. They broke up, and she eventually moved out. My husband didn't tell Vera we were engaged until she surprised him at work just before our wedding. She then said she'd been feeling suicidal, and complained of some unspecified physical problem. She now calls about once a month, often asking for favors. I find their contact disturbing, but he insists they are just friends and says he'll always love her but is not "in love" with her. I know she must be a good person, or he wouldn't have been with her. Would it be OK to write Vera, in a very reasonable tone, and ask her to carefully consider the impact that maintaining a relationship with my husband has on her, on him and on his relationship with me? -- Worried Wife A: Oh, do write Vera, and the next time you're being attacked by a rabid dog, give him a little lecture on the effect his fangs will have on your leg and on your health care co-payments.... | |

With so many things to plan for the wedding, no wonder more and more couples are turning to online stores for their wedding favors. The statistics from the United States Census Bureau states that the total e-commerce sales for 2005 were estimated at $86.3 billion, an increase of 24.6% from 2004, while total brick and mortar retail business sales in 2005 increased 7.2% from 2004. "I look around the farm some days and think, ‘Anybody should be so lucky to be me,' " Ms. Fischer said. "Some people say Martha's Vineyard is a microcosm of the rest of the country, but it's really not. Not even close," she added. "We're much better off than most everywhere else." A graduate of Bard College, Ms. Fischer, who is 25, recently moved back to the Island with her fiance, Doug, and an East Friesian ram named Randy. | | | She knew newlyweds would flock to the Nest | | Posted Tuesday, October 24, 2006 11:14:33 AM by Blog57 Team | | When Shannon Tucker of Eagan was planning her wedding, she quickly came to rely on TheKnot.com, the Web's popular wedding resource site. She met other brides on the message boards; she viewed gowns; she found local vendors. After getting married in July, Tucker found a new place to turn for support ? the Knot's answer to the details of happily ever after: TheNest.com. "You get to the point where you write on the Knot's message boards, 'My wedding is coming up, thanks everybody, see you on the Nest!" says Tucker, 22. St. Paul is the largest market for the Nest's online community; that's why the founder and editor of the sites, Carley Roney, is making a stop at the Mall of America Barnes & Noble Friday to offer advice to newlyweds and promote the enterprise's new book, "The Nest Newlywed Handbook: An Owner's Manual to Modern Married Life" (Clarkson Potter, $22.50).... | |

| | | Infinite Mixtape #25: Annuals: "Brother" | | Posted Saturday, October 21, 2006 3:13:11 AM by Blog57 Team | | Ace Fu Records is blowin' up, what with getting their claws into Man Man, blog faves DeVotchka, and Books-alikes Tunng. But if their forthcoming Be He Me album lives up to what this track promises, North Carolina-based Annuals might be the label's best find yet. Like some fantasy hybrid of Animal Collective, the Arcade Fire, and Broken Social Scene, "Brother" opens on a whisper before exploding at the halfpoint with colossal percussion, twisting guitars, feather-fall violins, and exultant, emphatic shouts that puncture the mix like they're trying to break in from another dimension. We first heard this track on the band's MySpace last week and scrambled to make it one of the first entries in the Infinite Mixtape series, but the label was waiting on the mastered version. Well, today we've finally got it, and you lucky bastards are the first to hear it.... | |
