| Wedding Anniversaries - for years to come | | Posted Thursday, January 26, 2006 9:46:21 PM by Kate Grant | They begin with paper, cotton, wood and iron and go on to silver gold and diamonds. Have you guest what they are? If you said " wedding anniversaries" you're absolutely right. Each year is associated with a traditional gift, so you can give anniversary gifts that match the year represented by the material, and there are many options. Some couples even have a wedding anniversary list.
A nice idea is to give something that will mark the next year, and wish the couple many more years of happiness on the greeting card attached.
The first wedding anniversary is paper, so anything made out of paper, like books (Try Love poems!), cards and stationary, or the modern day option, clocks (representing the time flying by?) are a good option.
The second anniversary is cotton. Clothes and linen are a nice gift, or china, the modern alternative.
The fifth, is wood, anything from furniture to silverware, and the tenth is tin, with the modern alternative being diamond, all leading to the 50 wedding anniversary, gold. You'll know what to give then, won't you?

In Gwendolyn Jovenal's case, the altar has left her. She has about 300 wedding guests coming, some from as far as Australia, Israel and the Philippines, and no place for a wedding. The harbor-side park that she and fiancé Jonathan Soldwisch had booked last March for their Nov. 25 wedding is suddenly unavailable. Jovenal received a call from a San Diego Unified Port District employee last week explaining that the Embarcadero Park South is being repaired after heavy use from the summer concert season and is unusable. "At first I thought it was a joke. But when I realized the port was serious, I was speechless," she said. Jovenal probably will get back her $500 deposit.
