| Elvis has left the building - How about a Las Vegas wedding? | | Posted Tuesday, January 31, 2006 9:33:28 AM by Kate Grant | The sky is the limit, as they say, and if you want to get married in Las Vegas, they are probably right. Any style, anytime, anywhere. Maybe it's the desert air, maybe the slot machines, but there is no doubt. If you came all the way here, you might as well do it in style.
If you want a quick ceremony, that will be cheap as well, try the drive through window wedding. Not the most romantic of weddings, but a quick one for sure... With prices ranging from a couple of hundred dollars to thousand of dollars, you are sure to find the chapel or the Las Vegas hotel to fit your budget.
Theme weddings are very popular in Las Vegas, the most popular theme being, you've guessed it, Elvis. You can get married at the Elvis chapel, have an Elvis impersonator minister, or even have "The King" sing at your wedding...
If Elvis is not the thing for you, how about a simple Rock N Roll wedding, or an Egyptian wedding? Either Gothic or Victorian, Hollywood or Camelot, there's something for everyone's taste here. Congratulations!

| | | Offbeat Schools | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 7:11:52 PM by Blog57 Team | | Some people go back to school to study the great books. Others would rather learn how to throw a 14-inch knife, or hammer yellow-hot steel into semi-useful shapes or whip up a chocolate ganache that would make Julia Child sigh. There are hundreds of unusual schools in the U.S., teaching subjects increasingly diverse. Most are run by entrepreneurs trying to turn their knowledge and love of an obscure field into a business. Best of all, they don't require homework. Here, FSB enrolls in a few fall offerings around the country. .... | |

| | | Nowhere but up for Vegoose | | Posted Monday, November 06, 2006 3:40:22 PM by Blog57 Team | | Las Vegas needs a music festival in much the same way it needs a replica of the Eiffel Tower or a glass pyramid. Nevertheless, we have Vegoose, which just completed its second year. But unlike the architectural imitations, this copycat music festival may eclipse the original - and that's good news for all involved. Vegoose's forefather, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., just turned seven. And on paper, it beats its Sin City brethren: more stages (six to four), more performances (96 to 38), more tickets sold (roughly 120,000 to 60,000) and most importantly, more credibility (it was host to the Pixies reunion and has attracted reluctant acts such as Massive Attack, Tool and Nine Inch Nails). Vegas can overcome issues of scale and aggressiveness.... | |

She owns and operates Home Health Cosmetologist, and she, along with three other employees, travel to their clients' homes to perform basic services like haircuts, shampoos and styles, lip and brow waxes, and manicures and pedicures. "We go wherever we're needed," Glass said, including Erie, Huron, Lorain, Cuyahoga and Medina counties. Glass, who lives in Norwalk, said she got the idea for the business after her mother-in-law was diagnosed with emphysema. At the time, "there was simply no known company out there" to provide services to home-bound patients, so Glass, who's certified with the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology, did her mother-in-law's hair on Fridays.... | |

| | | Hughes leaves behind a legacy | | Posted Thursday, October 26, 2006 11:17:19 AM by Blog57 Team | | Jerry Hughes remembers his first few days on the job in the summer of 1989 as the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association's executive director. "The entire office was just me and my secretary," Hughes said last week from his office in downtown Reno. "We were down in Carson City at that time, in the state Department of Education building and we didn't even have a fax machine. "I remember thinking, 'Boy, if we ever got a fax machine, that would sure make things easier.' We had to send everything out by mail back then. We'd have to plan ahead for the week or so it took for the mail to arrive. "When we finally got a fax machine, I thought, 'Now we're going places. We have it made now.'" The NIAA's offices are now located in Reno and Hughes is joined every day on the fifth floor at 1 East Liberty Street by two assistant directors (Jay Beesemyer and Donnie Nelson) and an administrative assistant (Linda Flora).... | |
